Macomber Art Restoration Services
Ed Macomber received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wagner College at Staten Island, NY (1964-1967) and a cumulative degree in illustration and graphic design from Parson's School of Design at New York City, NY in 1968 and 1981 respectively. I majored in numerous disciplines including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and watercolor.
During my studies from 1965-67 I was a student intern at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, NY as part of a work/study in the discipline of fine art conservation and restoration principles and application.
I was the sole proprietor of Art & Materials in New Bern from 1998-2008, while maintaining a professional career as a successful artist. After numerous commissions and juried awards in both watercolor and pastel, I sold the business to further a full-time business as "E.G.Macomber Studio" also in New Bern. As the market in art sales declined, I began to expand my occasional commission to restore works of art and rare documents for private collectors.
After more than a decade of client support and letters of recommendation, I decided to pursue the service on a full-time basis.
In the decade since, I have restored hundreds of fine paintings, rare prints, documents, works of art on paper and limited 3 dimensional pieces for both private and municipal collections.
The success of the studio led me to expand to the current location, but also to aquire a 4'X6' museum level heated vacuum table, a complete frame restoration service which includes water and oil gilding in precious metals and statuary. With these additions, I can meet any requirement up to the limits of my equipment and space.
I currently have a master artist and have begun an internship program in coordination with the Craven Board of Education.
